Matilda was bred by Linda Cannon of Fleurdelys Cattery, a registered breeder of Burmese and Siamese in Mount Pleasant near Penrith, NSW, Australia.  Matilda is a very pale lilac colour (almost milky on her underside) but has darkened as she has grown, with pinkish grey points.  She has the most exquisite eyes, luxuriously fluffy tummy, dainty soft pink paws and the prettiest face.  She is extremely feminine and on first meeting you would know instantly that she is a girl.  In my biased opinion she is the most beautiful female Burmese I have seen.  The most wonderful thing however, is that her stunning beauty is matched by the sweetest and most endearing purrsonality and character.  She is certainly a rare jewel.

After the death of our dearest Thomas early in 2001, I was concerned that Edward our Abyssinian may be lonely and fretting for feline companionship.  I too was feeling desperately empty without Thomas and felt that the joy a new kitten could bring to our home was just what we needed.  I was very conscious however, that this new little one would be loved for the individual character that he/she was and would in no way be a replacement for Thomas.  I was not certain of which breed I wanted to adopt but as my sister-in-law and mother-in-law both had Burmese, I knew that they were really special cats and that the Burmese temperament would fit well into our home.  The accepting, laid back attitude of the Burmese was very important to us as I new I would not be able to cope emotionally with a highly strung kitten.  I had looked through the Trading Post and found Linda's advertisement.  I knew I wanted a lilac Burmese and felt that Edward would probably get along better with a female.  Linda confirmed that she had a 12 week old lilac girl available and on Sunday, Februrary 18, 2001 we drove to Mount Pleasant to meet Linda and the beautiful baby girl who was to be our Matilda.  We had decided prior to meeting Linda and our kitten, that we would name her Matilda.  I had a book when I was young called "Don't Forget Matilda" which was about a young koala named Matilda Elizabeth Bear.  After seeing her it was confirmed, the name Matilda was perfect for her.  I knew instantly that Matilda was just what we had hoped for and more.  As I approached her she came towards me boldly wagging her tail.  I picked her up and she purred madly, falling asleep in my arms.  This was the beginning of a very special relationship.  On the drive home Matilda fell asleep and we did not hear one cry from her.  When we arrived home she jumped out of the cage and marched up to Edward wanting to make friends.  She then played with some of the toys we had bought for her - jumping around as though she had always lived with us.

Matilda has idolised Edward from the moment she saw him but sadly, for quite some time, this was not reciprocated.  Fortunately, Edward has now accepted Matilda with love and enjoys her companionship and snuggle up with her for a snooze.  Matilda is very close to Albert and they share a wonderful relationship (a real brother/sister bond).  It was because of our love for Matilda and the fear that she was lonely, that we adopted Albert into our family and this has been one of the best decisions we have ever made.

Matilda and I share a very special and unique bond - we have a 'girlie' connection.  Her uncomplicated nature has been so good for me and has helped to relieve many of my anxieties.  I treasure Matilda more than I could every describe - I am honoured to have her as my feline daughter and companion.
